Supervised visitation in Minneapolis — for communities that know Arabic by heart, and Somali by tongue

The Twin Cities are home to the largest Somali community in America, alongside growing Arab communities. Amanah provides supervised visitation and monitored exchange here in Arabic — and coordinates professional Somali interpreters for those who need them, because your child's case cannot afford a misunderstanding.

Minneapolis and St. Paul hold a special place among our cities: the largest community here is not Arabic-speaking by tongue but Somali — from Cedar-Riverside in Minneapolis to the neighborhoods of St. Paul and the suburbs. Many of its members know Arabic from the Qur'an and religious study and find it reassuring to hear, but the language of home and daily detail remains Somali. Alongside it, Arab communities grow year by year: Iraqi, Syrian, Lebanese, Yemeni, and Egyptian families spread across both cities and their suburbs.

We built our service here on exactly that reality: Arabic at its core, flexible in its languages — because language justice is part of justice itself.

Our service in the Twin Cities

We serve families in Minneapolis and Hennepin County, St. Paul and Ramsey County, and the surrounding suburbs. Visits take place in neutral community settings — and through Minnesota's long winter we rely on warm indoor venues: libraries, community centers, family restaurants — attended by a professional supervisor for the full session, with a written report in English within twenty-four hours, in the factual format Minnesota family courts and law firms work with.

A hearing interpreter in court is a free right you request in advance — and the region's courts are accustomed to providing both Somali and Arabic interpreters, given the makeup of their communities. Read our guide to your language rights before your hearing.

What sets us apart in Minneapolis

  • Respect for both languages: our primary communication is in Arabic and English, and we coordinate a professional Somali interpreter for calls and coordination whenever needed — without putting relatives or children in the position of interpreting sensitive matters.
  • An understanding of the religious and family context: prayer times, Friday, and Ramadan are respected in scheduling; conservative family values are understood, not met with raised eyebrows. Our service is professional and secular and serves everyone — cultural respect is part of its professionalism.
  • Winter does not stop the visits: an indoor-venue plan stands ready all through the cold season, so your child never loses the rhythm of their visits.
  • Published pricing: a one-time $150 case setup fee, and $65 per hour with a two-hour minimum — details here.

Questions from Twin Cities families

I understand Arabic in religion, but I want my case details in Somali — possible?

Possible, and completely understood. Legal terminology needs a precision that general familiarity with a language cannot carry, so we coordinate a professional Somali interpreter for coordination and explanation calls whenever you ask.

Will the supervisor attend a visit at or near an Islamic center?

The visit location is set by the parties' agreement and the court order's terms, and our standard is the neutrality of the venue and the comfort of the child. If both parties agree on a community venue near a mosque or center, there is no objection in principle, within the order's terms.

Do you cover the suburbs — Bloomington, Edina, Brooklyn Park?

Yes. Our coverage includes the greater Twin Cities area. Enter your address when you register and we will confirm the arrangements during the intake call.
